Description

This charming mid-century oil depicts a picturesque view of the River Tee, on the North bank of Barnard Castle. The artist has painted the scene in an impressionistic manner with textured impasto emphasising the river's rippling water bounding over shallow cascades. The painting has been signed and dated to the lower right-hand corner. With a second artist's signature and title verso. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some craquelure across the surface. The canvas stretchers have twisted slightly with the painting not sitting flat in the top right-hand corner. There are two surface dents visible in the canvas. The first just above the artist's signature and the second in the skyline, Both to the right-hand side.
