Moss Brothers Illustrations - Mid 20th Century India Ink Style and Horsemanship
Description
A set of ten original mid 20th Century illustrations for the menswear brand, Moss Bros booklet entitled 'Notebook on Applied Fox-Hunting'. All ten studies appear similar in size with a paper overlay fixed to the upper edge. A number of designs have been signed 'Douglas', titled and inscribed with comic phrases in a striking, graphic typography. These amusing illustrations were probably produced to accompany customer purchases as a creative marketing material, although it is unclear whether the booklets were ever published and distributed. The illustrations have been additionally inscribed on the reverse 'Client:-Moss Bros' titled 'Notebook on Applied Fox Hunting' and given reference numbers. On wove.Condition
Some dirtying and discolouration to the wove and foxing to the overlay papers.

Collection Information
From a small collection of original pen and ink illustrations for a Moss Bros Booklet. The Covent Garden based tailors produced numerous booklets and pamphlets intended to be given away with the purchase of a new suit. Various titles include 'Correct Dress for Horse & Rider', 'Riding Clothes & Saddlery', 'Some Notes on the Chase', and 'A History of Hunting Costume'.
