An exquisite mid 19th Century miniature portrait in watercolour, showing a handsome man in profile, with an elegantly pointed nose and a fine suit with crisp white collar. The artist's use of minuscule individual brush strokes to build up tone and form, is typical of the era but also shows a superior hand in the medium. Sulis acquired this portrait along with three others by the same hand of the other members of this gentleman's family. The two children and the wife all have their own separate portraits, all facing towards the left, so that, when displayed together, they would be looking at their father/husband. The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. The frame has some very minor losses around the outer edges.
