Mid 19th Century Oil - The Changeling
Description
A fine mid 19th Century interior scene, rich with narrative. A small child enters through an open door into a cottage, carrying a bunch of flowers with an uncanny smile. The mother, hands held to her heart, moves to go to the child, yet the father holds her back with one hand and gestures for the child to leave with the other. Behind the parents sits an elderly woman, gazing, glassy eyed at the child. The scene has areas of exquisitely painted detail in the interior and holds excellent atmosphere.
The painting is unsigned and has been professionally relined. The painting has been presented in a substantial, contemporary gilt effect frame with beaded strap work.
