Description

A refined Biedermeier-era portrait of Gretchen Heithecker, née Gerold of Warburg. The sitter is dressed in a black velvet gown, complemented by a delicate blue lace bonnet and a matching lace collar, secured with a gold brooch. Jade drop earrings provide a subtle accent to her dark hair and pale skin. Her gaze meets the viewer directly, softened by a faint, poised half-smile. Unsigned. Inscribed verso. Beautifully presented in an ornate gilt frame. On paper laid to panel.

Condition

Some undulation to the paper. Light abrasions to the surface, notably below the left eye. There is a small pinhole to the upper left of the paper. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. Overall the artwork is in very good condition for its age. Some wear to the frame including scuffs and small chips. Overall the frame is also in very good condition for its age.
