Description
A dynamic and engaging 19th Century oil, showing two dogs, locked in a fierce fight over the remains of a bone. Both dogs have wild eyes and bared teeth, adding a predatory foreboding to the painting. The scene has excellent movement and narrative and is exquisitely painted. The artist's graphite grid lines are still visible under the paint in some places. The painting is unsigned and presented in a handsome 20th Century gilt frame with lamb's tongue strap work. there is an indistinct canvas stamp to the reverse. On canvas.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Inspection under UV light reveals some restoration. there is a canvas repair to the reverse. In overall remarkable condition given its age.
