A very fine and meticulously detailed 19th Century miniature portrait in watercolour on ivorine panel by the artist Maximilian Stieler (1825-1897). Wearing ermine trim and a parure of pearls, the sitter is clearly an aristocratic patron, depicted in the traditional miniaturist style. The artist has a remarkable proficiency in the medium, with miniscule brushwork and a fine naturalistic palette. The figure confronts the viewer in a soft manner, with a relaxed, casual gaze. Her dress and style is typical for the aristocratic classes of the early 19th Century. An impressive example of Stieler's work.
Handsomely presented in a brass frame with cast mounted detail, and lamb's tongue running pattern, as shown. Signed to the lower right. On a bone-like substrate.
In very good condition overall, especially for a picture of this age. There are some small light areas of paint loss to the left side of the frame. Overall, the work has a patina of age over the surface. The brass frame is in fine condition.
