A fine early 20th Century Belgian Impressionist landscape showing the rural hills of the Belgian countryside with blossom trees and farm buildings. The artist's use of darker, more muted tones in the distant hills adds gravity and highlights the delicate beauty of the blossom and colourful fields of the foreground. The artist has signed, dated and monogrammed to the lower right corner. On canvas.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and light wear to the outer edges of the canvas.

Artist Biography

Maurice Jean Micha was born in Spa, Belgium in 1890. He painted genre and urban scenes, figures, portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and frescoes.
Micha studied at l'Académie de Bruxelles and traveled to Italy to see the great masterpieces of art and architectural history. Micha and W. Paerels were friends. Initially fauvism influenced Micha’s style but as his work matured, his pallet became more somber. Micha’s boldest paintings are typical of the Belgian Expressionists, including cubist elements and brush strokes that create angular movement.
He created a fresco for the Belgian pavilion at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. The Musée d’Ixelles owns some of Micha’s work.
