Painter, born in Hartlepool, Cleveland. He studied at Wrexham Art School in 1960 and Reading University, 1961-64. Between 1969-80 he taught at Liverpool Polytechnic. His solo exhibitions include the Serpentine Gallery, Bluecoat Gallery, Edward Totah Gallery, and the Royal West of England Academy, staged in 1998. In 1995 he was given a retrospective at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and another in 2002 at the Belgrave Gallery. Cockrill's work was shown regularly in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Paris and he exhibited in Belgium, Holland and Australia. Cockrill also taught at the Royal College of Art, the Slade and St. Martin's School of Art.
