A fine mid-19th-century portrait of a refined woman. She wears a cinched satin gown trimmed with delicate lace, alongside glittering gold jewellery which marks her wealth and status. Her glossy hair is smoothed neatly behind her ears and plaited at the back, in the fashion of the day. Signed and dated to the lower right. Well presented in a wooden frame. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Fine craquelure observed throughout. Minor surface marks and abrasions. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of previous restoration. Tears to the canvas have been previously restored. The frame has minor surface wear and scuffs. The artwork is in very good condition for its age.
