Description

A thoroughly charming mid 19th Century oil in the humorous and heartwarming naive style of Dutch Jacobean painter, David Teniers, the Younger (1610–1690). This double portrait shows a humble man and wife, singing with gusto, from a hymn sheet.

The painting is unsigned and presented in a handsome early 20th Century gilt frame with delicate, low relief molding featuring scrolling acanthus leaf and foliate designs. The frame has had a contemporary gilt finished applied.

On canvas laid to board.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and areas of fading to the paint. The frame has some tarnishing and an area of loss to the molding at the upper inner left corner.
