Description

Two figures prepare a small fishing boat to set sail. Beyond, a coastal town recedes into the hazy distance and a ship is silhouetted against the glowing sky. An inscription to the lower left reads "d'apres [...] Vernet," followed by an indistinct signature and date, possibly 1893. Well presented in a vintage wooden frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age including discolouration and surface dirt. Areas of overpainting. Flaking to the upper left, which has been overpainted. Marks and scuffs to the frame.
