M. Matom - Framed Late 19th Century Oil 19th Century Castle
Description
This scenic painting depicts a looming 19th-century castle surrounded by trees and a river. The painting is well presented in a substantial gilt frame.
On the back of the board mare several inscriptions, the name M. Matom is written twice, as well as J. Bowel.
The board has a 'Reeves and Sons Academy Board' emblem on the back.
There are various illegible framer's notes written of the back of the board and frame.

The painting's condition is characteristic for one of its time. There is discolouration across the paint surface with minor cracking and some across the tree on the right and across areas of the castle and bridge. Surface dirt is found across the majority of the artwork, and small chips of paint are missing from a few areas in the top third of the painting. There is a thin scratch line along the painting's edge under the lower right hand side of the frame. The frame is scuffed, marked and cracked i some areas. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.
