A striking nineteenth-century depiction of the crucifixion, skilfully executed in watercolour. Christ's body appears almost luminous as he looks down towards Mary Magdalene, the Virgin Mary, and Saint John the Apostle, who gather below. Spear-bearing soldiers stand on the left-hand side, preparing to pierce Jesus' side. Signed and dated to the lower left. Well presented in a gilt frame. On paper.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including some discolouration and light foxing to the paper. Faint abrasions to the upper right of the page. Light wear to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
