A charming stipple engraving showing a street scene of a milk maid giving a pail pail of milk to a pair of poor children. The engraving has been hand coloured. The engraving has an inscription at the bottom with the title, publisher's date and address and a sub title in French that translates to "They want milk when they are hot." The original artist Francis Wheatley RA (1747– 1801) and sculptor Luigi Schiavonetti (1765-1810) have been named at the bottom of the image.
The engraving has been presented in a 19th Century glazed, Hogarth style frame.
On wove.The condition is typical for a picture of this age including heavy discolouration. There is general dirtying to the surface of the wove. The frame has losses at all four corners and chips to the left and right edges.
