A very fine late 19th or early 20th century portrait by the Italian artist Luigi Agristi. The study depicts a jolly looking monk holding two fiascos and two dead hens. A satchel slung over his shoulder is partially open, revealing more bottles of wine. The artist has sympathetically captured the subject's facial features, with rosy cheeks and a cheerful smile. The attention to detail is very fine, with delicate application of paint creating a highly life-like composition. Painted on canvas and laid to board. Signed.
Condition
The condition is good for a painting of this age. With areas of faint craqueleure and some light surface marks. Inspection under UV light shows no sign of restoration.
