Description

This vibrant and vigorous dutch still life has been beautifully painted in a loose style by Victorian artist Louis Silas. Arranged on a marble sideboard, Silas has depicted an abundant display of cut flowers, alongside sweet fruits and a tempted bee. The colourful scene has been carefully signed to the lower right-hand corner. Mounted in a later gilt frame with a ribbon twist running pattern. Composed on a Royal Academy student canvas.

On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some craquelure to the surface. Signs of wear to the frame include a small loss to the top right and lower right corner. there is a small amount of paint loss visible on the centre flower, with overpainting attempted in this area. One patch repair has been made to the reverse of the canvas.
