Artist Biography

Pierre Nicolas Euler was a French painter renowned for his exquisite still life compositions featuring flowers and fruits. Born in Lyon on January 12, 1846, Euler developed his artistic talents during a formative period of French art history. Euler was educated at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, where he studied from 1860 to 1865 under Jean-Marie Reignier. This five-year intensive training provided him with the technical foundation that would define his meticulous approach to still life painting. Euler's professional career began with his debut exhibition in Lyon in 1875. His reputation grew steadily over the following decades, culminating in his Paris debut twenty years later in 1895. The artist's dedication to his craft earned him significant accolades, including a first-place prize in Lyon in 1895 and a medal from the prestigious Paris Salon in 1904. These honours marked the peak of his career, which flourished during the turn of the 20th century. Euler's paintings, characterised by their focus on floral arrangements and fruit compositions, exemplified the refined still life tradition of late 19th-century French art. Following his death in France in 1915, Euler's artistic contributions have been preserved in collections worldwide. Today, his paintings can be found in both private collections and public institutions, including museums in Angers, Clermont-Ferrand, and Montpellier, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire new generations of art enthusiasts.
