Description

An elegant, mythological inspired painting showing the goddess Venus arriving at the shore after birth. Floating on a large shell, the beauty can be seen breaking through a swell of mist and water, emerging a fully-grown women. The symbolic watercolour has been signed by the artist to the lower left and is dated 1977. Well presented in an attractive slim wood frame with a cream coloured mount. On paper.

Condition

Some dust and debris caught under the glazing to the lower edge of the mount. Otherwise in very good condition.

Artist Biography

Louis Boermeester was a Dutch painter, draughtsman and stained-glass artist who was born in Amsterdam on 12 January 1908, he died in Ede on 2 November 1992. Between 1952 and 1972 he lived in the United States. Louis Boermeester specialised in portraits, historical pieces and religious subjects. His preference for strong and clear lines can be found in his stained-glass designs as well as in his paintings. Louis Boermeester was a member of the Amsterdam art society St. Lucas.
