Artist Biography
Born in 1934, Lorna Cassidy studied Printmaking at Wycombe Art School, specialising in Etchings and Aquatints. Lorna was fascinated with her surroundings, and her landscapes increasingly documented change, especially the demolition of areas and buildings that she had grown up with, chronicling the march of 'progress'. Alongside this, she was interested in her home town, Wycombe, joining campaigners in environmental and often political causes, for example, the demolition of the original Pann Mill to allow widening of the London Road; the clearing of Newlands; the building of The Octagon (Wycombe's original shopping mall, now part of Eden); and the transformation of the historic Parker Knoll furniture factory in Temple End into a supermarket and car park. She wrote several texts, such as *Discovering High Wycombe* (1970) and *25 years in High Wycombe* (1977). Her book *50 Years*, which contains a wealth of her works, was put together in 1999 for the Millennium Exhibition at Wycombe Museum.
