Late 19th Century Picture Frame - Original Art Nouveau Gilt Crocus Frame
Description
A beautiful and delicately molded late 19th Century frame from the Art Nouveau era. The frame boasts the traditional scrolling and organically swirling floral forms, typical of the era. The flowers appear to be crocuses with their long leaves adding beautiful form the the corners of the frame.
The symbolism of flowers were very important at this period of art history and crocuses can be used to symbolise cheerfulness and youth. The frame is finished with a gold mount and the original glazing. There is a period print in the frame, showing a woman with cyclamen flowers.
Condition
Three is a small loss to the lower right corner and slight tarnishing to the gilt.
