Late 19th Century Oil - The Window Alcove

Description

Light streams through the window, illuminating a humble alcove with a simple table and seats. A mandolin hangs on the wall and a pen and inkpot rest on the table. Indistinctly signed to the lower right. Inscribed to the reverse at a later date. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame. On board.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. The surface of the board is uneven, in keeping with the age of the piece. Marks, scuffs, and small cracks to the frame. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.
