L G Duffill - Late 19th Century Oil The Cobbler And His Wife
Description
A fine oil full of character showing a cobbler mending his wife's shoes while she stands next to him, barefoot. The scene is rich in details of the cobbler's workshop, tools, teapots, a violin and shoes litter the workshop. The artist has signed to the lower right corner.
The painting is presented in a handsome gilt effect frame with gadroon ornamentation and acanthus leaf accents.
On canvas.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There are several areas of restoration, one to the shoulder of the woman, one beside her head and one to the right hand edge. There is also minor paint loss to the women's skirts but this is almost unnoticeable. The frame is in fine condition.
