Description

An atmospheric harbour scene by Dutch artist Kees Terlouw (1890-1948), signed by the artist to the lower right. Figures unload cargo from a barge moored in the harbour, whilst the silhouette of the Basilica of Saint Nicholas emerges through the haze in the distance. Terlouw employs a muted palette and broad, impressionistic brushstrokes. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Overall the condition is good. Some discolouration and wear around the edges of the canvas. Some areas of stable cracking to the paint.

Artist Biography

Kees Terlouw (1890-1948) was a Dutch painter of landscapes, interior scenes and still lifes. He trained in Rotterdam, but later moved to France.
