Description

This atmospheric early-twentieth, possibly late-nineteenth century oil by Belgian artist Henry Cartier depicts the Vlamingbrug (Flemings' Bridge) in Bruges, Belgium. Cartier captures the character of this charming medieval street through broad, impressionistic brushstrokes and a muted, earthy colour palette. Signed to the lower left. Well presented in a gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Overall, the condition is good for a picture of this age. Evidence of some restorative work, including a canvas patch repair and areas of overpainting. Some discolouration. Light scuffs and scratches to the frame.
