Kathleen Rumsey After Edmund Leighton - c.1900 Charcoal Drawing God Speed

Description

An exquisite charcoal drawing depicting an armoured knight departing to war and leaving his beloved. The original painting was exhibited in the Royal Academy of Arts in 1900. This highly accurate copy taken from the original artwork by Edmund Leighton (1852-1922), an eminent artist of the Pre-Raphaelite movement, is very well executed. Although we have no biographical information on the artist Rumsey, it is clear from the superb detail and handling of the medium that Rumsey was a highly skilled draughtsman. There is a thick layer of fixative covering the fragile medium. Signed. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and areas of minor foxing. There are several small 1cm long tears to the paper. Minor creasing to the paper, especially at the upper left edge. Several pin holes and worm holes are visible to the outer edges. They do not interfere with the main image.
