An expressive abstract monoprint by the British artist Kaia Mayer (1923-2005). A colourful and unique composition, presented in a very wide mount and thin metal frame. Inscribed on the reverse, as shown. On wove.

In fine condition. A clean mount and some scuffing and scrapes to the metal frame, as shown.

Artist Biography

Born in Argentina to English/Danish parents in 1923, Kaia Mayer moved with her family to Vence, Southern France, in 1929 at the age of six. In 1943, Henri Matisse (1869-1954) moved to Vence, and after the pair met, Mayer became a model for the great artist.

In 1949, after meeting her husband in the same town, she moved to Highgate Hill in London and became an artist in her own right. She undertook art training at both the Byam School of Art and Central St Martin's, and for many years worked and studied at the Camden Institute. Her work is diverse and varied, in a range of mediums and styles.
