Artist Biography

Juliet Pannett was born in Hove in 1911. At the age of sixteen she enrolled at Brighton School of Art, and within two years her drawings were regularly appearing in local newspapers and publications. Pannett is particularly noted for her portraits of the English Royal Family, most notably HM Queen Elizabeth II. Following a commission in 1963 from The Devon and Dorset Regiment for a portrait of its colonel-in-chief, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, Pannett painted other royal portraits in the 1970’s for presentation to the Queen. These included Prince Andrew, a commission from the Painter-Stainers Company, and Prince Edward, a commission from the Royal Household. Pannett's work was also reproduced regularly in The Times, The Daily Telegraph and Radio Times, and for a long period, her drawings appeared on the cover of the Law Guardian. Her work was exhibited at the RA, RP, NPG and she was a member of the Society of Graphic Artists and the Pastel Society and was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
