Description
A young boy and girl peep through the slats of a wooden wall to watch a play in this playful late nineteenth-century scene by John Wells Smith. The girl looks towards the viewer with a mischievous smile. However, their fun will not last long as a man rounds the corner and catches them in the act. The work is monogrammed to the lower right, and is well presented in an ornate gilt frame. A small plaque has been affixed to the lower edge of the frame. On canvas.Condition
Craquelure observed throughout. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. Minor scuffs, stable cracking, and small losses to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
