John T. Dunning RBA (1851-1931) - c.1910 Watercolour On the Wedlake, Dartmoor

Description

An accomplished landscape at Wedlake Tor on Peter Tavy Common in Dartmoor. Presented glazed in a wash line mount with gold detailing and a distressed gilt-effect wooden frame. Signed to the lower-right edge. There is a faded original label on the verso which includes the title. There is also a later label on the verso that includes information about the painting and biographical information about the artist.

Condition

There is some mild foxing and some scuffs and dents to the frame. Overall in very good condition.

Artist Biography

John Thompson Dunning RBA (1851-1931) was a painter born in Middlesbrough. Dunning studied at Heatherley's and Exeter School of Art and showed at the Royal Society of British Artists (who elected him a member in 1899), the Royal Academy, Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Dudley Gallery, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, and Royal Scottish Academy. His work is represented in the collection of Middlesbrough Council and Sidmouth Museum.
