Artist Biography

John Smith was born in Worcester, Cape Province, in 1944. He started painting seriously in 1973 and began making a name for himself after moving to Durban in 1974. One of Smith's paintings was selected for the Art South Africa Today exhibition in 1975. His work is exhibited in numerous major centres in South Africa. Smith's style is impressionistic in flavour and he deals with a range of subject matters, from figurative studies to landscapes.
