John Alexander Powell (1911-2003) was an artist, fabric designer and teacher. Apprenticed as a printer, he later taught in Manchester, Nottingham, and Portsmouth College of Art. He retired in the early 1970's, although he stayed on as an GCE examiner for several years into retirement. He lived in Old Fishbourne until his passing. He often showed in private galleries, and his later works were more impressionistic in style.
