Artist Biography
John Langton was born in York in 1932. He studied at York School of Art, 1949-52 and at Guildford School of Art, 1952-3. During the period 1978-79 he was Artist Fellow at University of York and he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in 1995. Has contributed articles on art and art theory to various magazines and newspapers. His public commissions include large panel paintings for York and Durham Universities, as well as collaborative work with the potter David Lloyd-Jones for Sussex University and Goole Town Hall. Langton’s first solo exhibition was held at Austin Hayes Gallery, York, 1961 and since 1974 he has also exhibited regularly in Germany. His recent solo exhibitions include one at the Ergon Gallery, London, 1990. He was the Royal West of England Academy's Invited Artist at it's annual exhibition in autumn 2001. His work is in the collection of Wolverhampton Art Gallery.
