A very finely detailed watercolour design for a three pane stained glass ecclesiastical window, depicting the Virgin Mary with Child, a Bishop and a Priest of the Catholic Church, with colourful ornate surrounding designs. From the studio of John Hardman & Co, intricate figural details and vivid colours provide a fascinating insight into this traditional artistic craft. This window may have been created, however we have been unable to discover it's whereabouts.
John Hardman & Company reached great popularity in the Victorian period making ecclesiastical fittings and ornaments for churches throughout England. The firm's interest in Gothic Revival led them to stained glass production in collaboration with Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812-1852) from 1845 onwards, and they then produced windows for churches around the world, continuing into the 20th Century.
Well-presented in a simple thin black wooden frame. The design is on wove laid to another piece of darker card, as shown.
Unsigned and inscribed.In good condition overall, for a picture of this age. There is some surface dirt and discolouration to the page. There are pin holes to the corners, and some light creasing. The frame has scuffing to the corners.
