A charming nineteenth-century oil depicting a rustic stable interior with a donkey, pony, hens, and a rooster. The farmer enters carrying a harness with his faithful dog. The artist has taken particular care in the accurate rendering of the animals, using fine, detailed brushwork. Signed to the lower right. Presented in a swept gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. The painting has undergone previous restoration, including areas of overpainting, and the canvas has been relined. Marks, scuffs, and small cracks to the frame.
