John E. Aitken (1881-1957) - RI exhibited Original 20th Century Watercolour. This painting was exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and bears the original label from this exhibition on the reverse, including the artist's name. Signed to the lower left, in a decorative gilt frame, which is much brighter than it appears in the image. Signed. On wove. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Some foxing, and one tiny spot of surface abrasion to the paper in the sky, just to the right of the ship's mast. Frame has some losses and small cracks - a large loss to the centre top edge which has been retouched.
