A delightful study of a farmhouse overlooking fields in early evening light. Painted in an muted palette in a mid-century style. The artist has monogrammed to the lower left. Presented in a gilt frame with a wooden window.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some light surface abrasions. There is some wear to the frame.

Artist Biography

john Brown was a painter who was educated at Cambridge University. He then studied at Westminster School of Art, 1926–9, with Walter Bayes.

He showed at RBA, RCamA, Paris Salon and Lincolnshire Artists’ Society, sometimes just signing work J B. Lincoln’s Usher Gallery holds his works: A Break in the Clouds, November Sky and Humberstone Foreshore, all presented by Sir Hickman Bacon in the 1930s.
