John Brook Hart (1830-1916) - Very Fine Framed Original Late 19th Century Oil. A very finely painted view of Martlesham Creek in Suffolk, England, presented in an impressive gilt gesso ornate frame. With an old exhibition label verso (see image). Inscribed on the reverse.On board. There is an area of surface dirt to the upper right quadrant of the sky, along with some small areas of paint loss to the lower edge of the board, which are not affecting the main image. There are areas of fine craquelure which has been stabilised and the paint layer is sound. Paint layer is thin in some areas. Some wear to the gold slip and frame - a tiny loss to the frame decoration at the upper left corner, but generally the appearance is impressive. Inspection under UV light shows no signs of restoration. John Brook Hart was a well renowned Suffolk painter who lived in Woodbridge, Suffolk. He was a pupil of George James Rowe and was a founding member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1875-1890 and exhibited many paintings of the Suffolk landscape throughout his career, including many views of the Deben River.
