A charming watercolour painting by the artist John Arthur Dees, depicting a river scene with a stone bridge and a figure in the distance, near Durham. There is a label on the reverse inscribed with the artist's name, date and title. Signed to the lower right-hand corner. Well-presented in a double washline card mount and in a speckled gilt effect frame. On watercolour paper.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and minor surface marks. Some scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography
John Arthur Dees (1875-1959) was a painter, born in Newcastle upon Tyne who studied at Gateshead School of Art. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and RI and held solo exhibitions at Shipley Art Gallery firstly in 1927 and again in 1954. He is also represented in the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne. Like his brother Herbert Bewick Dees, he was primarily a painter of landscapes with figures.
