A fine 19th-century example of a 'tronie' portrait, depicting an elderly bearded man wearing a turban adorned with a feather and gold thread. Tronies were a popular genre in Dutch Golden Age and Flemish Baroque painting. The portrait is housed in an antique carved giltwood frame in the Rococo style, featuring gadrooning and beaded running patterns with large shell ornaments. Unsigned. On board.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Small, localised losses to the paint layer. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of minor overpainting. The frame has light surface wear and scuffs. Small cracks noted to the lower left and right-hand ornament. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
