Jennifer is known for her semi-abstract compositions that feature aspects of architecture. Her paintings derived principally from past visits to Italy and Ireland, but more recently she has returned to the industrial and mining sites of west Cornwall. Her paintings are infused with a sense of place, but also give a feeling of space and isolation. Painting in subtle, earthy colours on rough textured surfaces of her own making, her paintings are almost archaeological finds; intriguing shapes and forms exposed like shards from a rough terrain.
Jennifer Semmens was born in Cornwall in 1964. She studied at Falmouth College of Art and Gloucestershire College of Arts and Technology in Cheltenham, before returning to West Penwith to continue painting professionally.
Jennifer is a member of the Penwith Gallery, and exhibits there and at The New Craftsman; both in St.Ives. She has exhibited extensively throughout the West Country, as well as past exhibitions in London, Germany, France and The Netherlands. Her work is also included in the Truro School Collection and the George Dannatt Trust.
