A remarkable portrait by Danish artist Jean-Meno Haas (1786-1857). The sitter wears an impressive red uniform with silver epaulettes, and also wears a pair of gold earrings. An 1836 work by Johan Frederik Møller (1797-1871) depicts Prince Frederik Carl Christian (later King Frederik VII) in the same uniform as the present sitter, suggesting that he held a high-ranking position in the Danish army. The painting is well presented in an antique gilt frame and inscribed to the verso. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
The artwork has undergone restorative work, including a canvas tear repair and areas of overpainting. Discolouration and craquelure. Scratches and scuffs to the paint surface. Small losses and scuffing to the frame.
