A delicate and meticulously detailed watercolour of a rural church and cottages, signed by the artist Joel Owen, and dated 1889. Owen is a known pseudonym of the artist Francis E. Jamieson, who flourished between 1885 and 1940. The artist has a high level of skill in the medium, producing an ethereal view with subtle lighting and careful shadowing. On wove laid to thick card. Signed and dated.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration, mainly to the upper left. There is a closed tear to the top edge, extending down 8cm, and another closed tear to the right edge. There are also some surface marks and light scratches in the lower right quadrant.
