Overall, the condition is very good. There is some minor surface dirt. 10cm split to the board at the right-hand side. Marks and scuffs to the frame. There is some craquelure to the surface.

Artist Biography

James Levin Henry (1855-1929) was a landscape painter born in London. Nothing is known of his art training; however, he did visit Cornwall where he befriended Lamorna Birch. He was elected to the New English Art Club in 1887 and was also a member of the obscure Society of Twenty-Five Painters. Henry exhibited frequently, showing at the Royal Academy, Fine Art Society, Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Dudley Gallery, Grosvenor Gallery, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Goupil Gallery, International Society of Sculptors, Painters & Gravers, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Leicester Galleries, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, Royal Institute of Oil Painters and at the Royal Scottish Academy. Examples of his work are in the collections of Dudley Art Gallery, Williamson Art Gallery and Rochdale Art Gallery.
