A charming watercolour painting with gouache details by the artist James Hamilton Mackenzie. The scene depicts an extensive landscape view with trees. Signed to the lower left-hand corner. Presented in a thin, gilt-effect slip. On watercolour paper.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration, slight surface creasing and a 7 cm tear to the lower right-hand corner.

Artist Biography
James Hamilton Mackenzie ARSA (1875-1926) was a painter and etcher who studied at Glasgow School of Art, winning a travelling scholarship to Italy to further his studies. During World War I, James was in Africa, sketching much of his surroundings. Mackenzie was an associate of the RSA and the RE, also exhibiting at the RSW, GI, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, and at the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. Examples of his paintings are in the collections of Glasgow Museums, Paisley Museum and Art Galleries, Williamson Art Gallery and the McLean Museum and Art Gallery. His wife Margaret Thomson Wilson was also an artist. He died at Helensburgh.
