Figures and cattle populate a cobbled street in this meticulously detailed street scene by British artist James D. Barnett (fl. 1855–1892). Impressive buildings tower over the street, while a church can be seen at the foot of jagged mountains beyond. The work is monogrammed and dated to the lower right, and is well presented in a gilt frame. On board.

Light discolouration and areas of craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Light scuffs to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
