This charming watercolour study depicts the imposing facade of Conwy Castle in North Wales against the rugged Snowdonia landscape. Captured in fine watercolour detail with a small rowing boat of people in the foreground. Titled to the lower right. Inscribed to the reverse with artist signature, title and address. Beautifully presented in a glazed gilt frame with lambs tongue and beaded running patterns. On paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is light foxing.

Artist Biography

James Bourne (1773-1854) was a painter and draughtsman who was born in Dalby, Lincolnshire. he lived in both Manchester and London working as an artist and would travel in the summers on art tours and to country houses to draw aristocratic families. He exhibited at both The Royal Manchester Institution and the Royal Academy.

Several of Bourne's watercolours can be seen in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
