J. Geddes - Framed Late 19th Century Oil Still Waters
Description
A charming depiction of a still lake with white sailing boat drifting past rolling hills. The artist has used a stipple technique with their brush to depict much of the ground cover and foliage. Well-presented in a handsome gilt-effect frame with detailed running patterns to the inner window and outer edge. Signed and dated (1893). On canvas on stretchers.Condition
There is a small back mark on the surface of the oil near centre. The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration caused by a fine layer of dirt. Two small patch repairs can be seen to the reverse of the canvas, carefully concealed by overpainting to the front. The gilt effect frame shows signs of wear with small moulding losses, scuffs and light scratches.
