A charming riverscape, painted in oils by dutch artist Ferdinand Hendrik Sypkens (1813-1860). A gentle river sweeps through the centre of the composition, with moored boats manned on either side. To the right a boathouse sits, nestled amongst trees, with a woodworker out busy mending the side of a broken boat. Signed to the lower right-hand corner. The romantic scene has been well presented in a moulded gilt slip. On panel.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration caused by a buildup of surface dirt and nicotine. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. There is a faint line visible on the surface of the painting, to the right of the boat house.
