The work shows a horse being ferried across a river, and was presented at the 1819 Royal Academy exhibition, attracted public attention, generated critical approval, and helped bring about his election to become an Associate of the Royal Academy. Well-presented in a swept gilt wooden frame, as shown. Signed to the lower right corner. On canvas board.
